how do you count to twenty-four?
put your hands on my face and show me.
how do you find the time to love and live and dance and give
when the passage of moments is imaginary?

this clock has no hands but yours,
touching me and keeping me here.
how can i find the time to dream and plan and hope for the future
if this blank face leaves room also for fear?

how do i count to sixty
when your second hand is ticking away the past?
how do i count to sixty
when your hands hold me in the moment fast?

how do we count twenty-four,
twenty-four ages for love, for hate,
for dreams, for fears, for learning, for teaching,
for finding everything we need to our appetites sate?

this clock has no hands but yours,
holding me and freezing us in this moment in time.
how do we count any moment,
when there's no reason or rhyme?

how do you count to twenty-four?
put your hands on my face and guide me.
how are we to find the time for the building of us
when the future keeps passing into history?
